Doctors, Nurses or Midwives ordering blood tests or other investigations will discuss with you how to get the results. If you need to telephone for results, please do so between 2.00pm and 4.00pm (this helps our staff as we are less busy between these times).
Most blood test results are available within 7 – 14 days.
Urine and pregnancy tests within a week.
Smear tests take up to two months and are sent to you by post.
Before you leave the surgery you should expect to have a clear understanding of when and how any test results will be made known to you. We would attempt to contact you about seriously abnormal results, but you should always check with us on the result of a test.
Please do not expect our reception staff to have any medical knowledge, they are instructed to tell you if the test is normal. If the test is abnormal or you would like further discussion or interpretation of the results then please refer to your doctor.
Your test results will never be given to a third party.
[see our confidentiality agreement]
N.B. If your test was taken at a hospital appointment then the consultant or a member of their staff will be responsible for discussing the test with you. Please contact the department you were referred to for the results.
